Life finds a Way

The song of creation is the song of life. It is our song.

And now it is the song of recreation, centered in Christ’s incarnation. When Jesus says “I am the way,” most people hear that as a restrictive statement. Only His followers (e.g., Christians) get in. Everyone else, well, out. But is that really what he is saying here?

OR, is he actually saying “I am the way.” In other words, he is the universal precedent.  He is actually the way, period. He is the way for ALL. His way is not restricted to one kind of person. His way is the way for everyone, even regardless of their take on him.

In theology, we call this objective justification. Jesus’ sacrifice positionally changes God’s mind about all humans forever. Regardless of their acceptance of this truth or not. Because of this reality, God already loves even the most staunch and persistent atheist, even before their acceptance of this truth.

And He won’t change His mind. I suppose we could say God is more stubborn than we. He won’t stop. He doesn’t quit. His mind is made up. This seeingly insignficant twist of theology could change everything about you finding your “way” through life.

The song of creation becomes the song of re-creation. There is no end to its reach and inspiration. There is a limitless, boundless, eternal welling up of life, love, and hope. Death has actually been swallowed up by life. Life finds a way to win.

That is the trump card. That is the song of recreation. All is NOT for naught. Our labor is not in vain. There is purpose. There is continuation. There is real connection from things past, to our moment today, and to the future reconciliation of all things.

All things can be ours.

For all this WILL happen. Life will make a way for itself. It will find a way in. No matter what we think or don’t think. No matter how dreary things may get at times. No matter how many tyrants try to squash God’s dream and establish their own kingdom.

They can not, and will not be able to stop it. Life will find a way. It always finds a way. And we can too. Because we are on the side of life. If we find life, we find the way. The Way is the Life. And life always makes a way. That’s where we find it!

What we are looking for is already here. It defies logic at times. We look. We don’t find. We try. We don’t succeed. We look harder. We still don’t find. We try harder. We still don’t succeed. Yet still something opens up. Eventually.

Something gives way. Life starts to open up. A way begins to emerge, just as we stop trying or are about to give up. Something happens. Our view is widened. We can see what we could not see before. Right before our eyes.

Life. It is here. Not there. Not somewhere in the future. Not somewhere else. It is right here. Right in front of us. With us. We have been looking so hard and for so long that we missed it. And the “it” changed. The “it” is not the what we started after.

The “it” is life itself. The thing we have really been after. The thing we have always been after.  There is nothing else. There is no other prize. There is no other way. There is no other end. Life is its own reward. Its own end. Thanks be to God. Life finds a way!
