Your Time is Gonna Come

Our being in the story does not mean we know the story.  Not in its entirety  We are not the writer.  We have ideas.  Sure.  But we are more like the hero thrust into the story, the object of someone else’s mind.  Surprises abound. We actually don’t know what’s coming next.

And it’s that unpredictable nature that makes for a great story.

We never know what’s around the corner.  Thank God.  And what twists lie ahead.  Though we expect them.  We know they can make or break us.  We are called to be prepared.  But for what?  Since we do not know what is coming, an internal work must be done to prepare.

And the internal work of preparation seems odd to most.  It seems unnecessary.  Driven without clear goals.  Caring about things that don’t seem to have any sort of material reward.  Internal work sometimes does not.  But its focus is on the long term (the real long term).

We are preparing for a future that we do not yet know.  But we do know it.  In dreams.  And premonitions.  In deep longings.  We can feel it.  Even when we can’t see it.  It is there.  Like the Kingdom of God hiding.  It is there.  In, with, and under all that we do know.

How do we know?  It is not in concrete evidence, or solid plans, or bullet-proof concepts.  There are no such things first of all.  Our knowledge about the future is hardly that.  It is based on inner sight, belief, hope.  A distant, but believable dream for the future.

That distant dream is enough.  It is enough to keep us going.  Enough to drive our next steps.  To push us through the pain, exhaustion, ignorance.  That distant dream is what motivates us, it is what motivates others as well.  It gives us the leverage we need.

A dream is ultimately more inspiring than any sort of plan.  The vision is what creates our preparedness.  We become citizens of its country.  Before it exists.  It calls forth something in us.  It brings something out of us.  A good vision creates reality, before it is even realized.

That’s the beauty of a vision.  It is creative.  It actually creates life.  The Spirit hovering over the deep can not create life until it speaks light into existence.  But be sure, hovering over the deep is as necessary as breathing to the process.  We must hover.  Then speak.

For we do not know what intersections lie ahead.  And only those who have prepared (done their “time” hovering over the deep) will be prepared.  No plan could put together the kind of intersections life will bring.  Be prepared.  Be in a state of preparedness.  Always.

The teacher appears when the student is ready.  In the same way life opens up when we have positioned ourselves in a cretain state of belief, a posture of openness.  We don’t start at the top.  But we start.  We start with hope.  We start with peace.  We start with life.

And that is more than enough.  And we have more than enough.  It’s all in there.  Everything we need is already in there.  We simply have to trust.  We have to trust the Spirit is still hovering, only this time over our deep.  And He is about to speak new light into existence!

He is about to reveal something worthy of a revelation.  Your time is gonna come!
